I’m having tea with Earl Grey…: A Tea Jay Review. From For Goodness Cake
I’m having tea with Earl Grey…: A Tea Jay Review.
So it has been a totally mad day and whilst writing this I still find myself in leggins and a cake stained t-shirt, with the Cath Kidston event ever looming this evening. It is with great relief that I spied the brown envelope full of tea waiting for me at my desk. This time I have five more teas to review: I’m a Survivor, Corazon de Melon, Day ‘n’ Night, Club Bizarre and Indian Summer. A few of them are reminiscient of things I have tried before: Ginger, Earl Grey and Masala Chai, so I am very keen to see how Tea Jay have put their stamp on these teatime classics.
Indian Summer:
What I like best about this tea is that unlike some high-street coffee joints and tea companies, Tea Jay’s Chai isn’t simple bundled up into a teabag, or mixed up with sickly syrups to create that deliciously sweet and warming taste of traditional Chai. The best way to make a Chai is to boil the spices in full fat milk, infusing over an hour and then mixing with a black tea and adding sugar to taste. However, if you don’t have the time for that, which lets face it there rarely is, this blend is the next best thing. It’s abundant in chunks of cinnamon, which are really apparent in both the smell and taste. A natural sweetness comes through from the vanilla and cardamon balanced by an undertone of which gives it a lovely savory edge. This tea can be drunk without milk, or even better can be a milky bedtime treat with the addition of full fat milk (full fat is best!) and sugar. As it only takes three minutes to brew, this really is a good compromise to your traditional Chair. Simply deeelish!
I’m a Survivor
I always find that Earl Grey tea is a bit like Marmite: there are those who love it, and those who absolutely detest it. I, like Marmite, am a massive fan. To return to an earlier point, I like that Tea Jay are encouraging the drinking of Earl Grey as a lose leaf rather than cramming it into a little tea bag. When dried, Earl Grey can be such a beautiful leaf. It is almost a deep blue in colour, with a smoky floral scent. This particlar tea blend also incorporates Orange flowers which act as a stark contrast to the deep leaf. I usually drink Earl Grey with milk, something which some people find strange. But this time I drank it without and found it did not have any bitterness to it. This blend has the delicious smoky, deep flavour typical of an Earl Grey.
Club Bizarre
When I read the back of the packet and saw it this Ginger based rooibos blend had carrot in it, I have to admit I was a bit taken aback. Moreover, when I saw the large chunks of carrot in the blend I was very intrigued to see what this blend would be like. To look at, this blend is very pretty. Studded with bright orange carrot and uniform strips of lemongrass, it is a beautiful shade of green. I like my ginger tea to be quite hot and spicy with a lasting heat when drunk. Perfect for cold morning and cosy evening. Whilst the ginger was present within this blend, I would say it wasn’t as strong as I would have liked. However, with the ginger increased, one would loose the more delicate flavours of the lemongrass and mint. Overall, this is a nice refreshing blend, but would perhaps be better drunk to cleanse the palate or on a summer’s afternoon rather than a winter warmer.
Corazon De Melon
This tea smells absolutely amazing – like super sugary melon sweets! I was very excited about getting tucked in. A combination of Oolong, Melon and Guava pieces, Barberries and various flowers, this tea is sweet and buttery, refreshing and light. The blend is abundant in chunks of glistening melon and playful red barberries. Beautiful both visually, and in scent. I am a massive fan of Oolong tea. I find their curled dark leaf stunning: it always holds such depth. Sweet and creamy.
Day ‘n’ Night
This Green Rooibos and Lemon blend smells delicious, reminiscent of buttery, lemon shortbread. It is mostly comprised of Green Rooibos, which is an unoxidized version of your standard Rooibos, or Redbush. Redbush is often drunk with a slice of lemon so Tea Jay have really drawn on traditional elements and methods of brewing to create a harmonious combination of flavours and smells. I feel it has a look of camomile tea – a beautiful golden hay, dotted with flecks of saffron yellow. When brewed, this tea really is very sweet and sticky to smell, but is pleasantly floral and delicate when drunk. The lemon provides energising undercurrents, whilst the Green Rooibos has mocks a mild taste of Redbush – malty and earthy. Rooibos often reminds me of the sweet smell of tobacco.

Tea Website With Good Tea
Nothing like a nice cup of hot tea on a chilly day, or a tall glass of iced tea on a hot summer afternoon. But there is more to this soothing yet refreshing beverage. A lot more then you may know. At our tea website www.teajay.com, we want to give you the information that will boost your knowledge of the wonderful benefits of drinking tea. Did you know that tea is full of antioxidants? These protect your body from many of the pollutions and toxins we come in contact with on a daily basis. The antioxidants also slow down the aging process and help to regenerate and repair your cells.
The phytochemicals that are in tea are another great bonus. They are believed to contribute to healthy strong bones. Also, A UC Davis report, The Zutphen Elderly Study, the risk of heart attack decreased when the intake of Phytochemicals called flavinoids was increased. Tea is full of these Flavinoids, especially Green Tea.
The Phytochemical benefits in tea are being researched as possibly playing a very crucial role in cancer prevention. This is a very promising area of research.

Since tea is calorie free and it does boost your metabolism, I could help you lose weight by burning a few more calories each day. However, if you ad sugar to your tea. Then it will be adding more calories instead of subtracting them.
Studies have indicated that drinking tea gives your immune system a boost. That certainly is a benefit during cold and flue season. You might just pass on the soda pop and have a cup of tea instead. In can’t hurt and could very well help you avoid the cold bug or flue that is going around.
Since tea is rich in alkylamine antigens, it may be helpful in warding off infections. Its natural ability to fight infection is something many of our ancestors knew about. That is one of the reasons that tea has been a popular drink for thousands of years.
